Beaches

Gort as an attractive destination is enhanced by its proximity to fantastic beaches. There is a huge amount of beautiful beaches, all clean, safe and very family friendly. We have brought you a small selection of  some of the beaches below.

Salthill Beach; the beach at Salthill is a Galway attraction that cannot be missed and always manages to retain its blue flag so be assured its waters are really clean and safe. The beach is actually numerous small beaches that are separated by crops- some are sandy and some are pebbly. The spectacular views of Galway Bay are breath-taking. There is an abundance of leisure activities nearby and so many things to do in Galway. Less than 40 min drive from Gort.

Traught Beach Kinvara; Traught is a blue flag beach with a difference! It is part of the Special Area of Conservation called the Galway Bay Complex. Along with having great surf, sandy shore and a small area of dunes, the beach is also of special interest for waterfowl. This beach is for the whole family and located just 10 minutes drive from Gort.

Loughrea Lake; The Loughrea Lake is a popular venue for families and locals. The Long Point with its plentiful car parking, changing and toilet facilities is a superb and safe place for swimming. The lake is an excellent stretch of water for sailboarding and canoeing. Boats can be hired on a daily basis. A very modern playground overlooks the lake, making Loughrea Lake the ideal destination for family activities  and only 20 minutes drive from Gort.

Fanore Beach; Its gaelic meaning "fainne oir" means ring of gold, with reference to its beautiful sandy beach. This beach is located on the R477 road between Ballyvaughan and Doolin North Clare, a 40 minute drive from Gort. With the Burren landscape as backdrop this coast road is simply breath-taking and well worth the drive. The beach is long sandy and safe and a very popular family destination.
